Schools for Scandal: The astounding waste, corruption, and self-dealing of university student governments

SCHOOLS FOR SCANDAL–The astounding waste, corruption, and self-dealing of university student governments: “The student government president who emerged from the tragicomic thunderdome I’m about to describe now presides over a $15 million budget that runs 413 pages, with almost zero professional oversight or legal accountability. That’s more than many municipal budgets in the United States.”  I have noticed the expansion of student fees during my time in academe, and have become more bothered with their waste, especially at four-year schools.  Money gets spent on t-shirts, speakers/entertainers, and other programs with limited benefit to the student body, while students, inundated with other fees already, are unable to opt out.
