The Young Conductor — Learning Repertoire

RICHARD SPARKS ON The Importance of Learning Repertoire: “For the beginning conductor it seems a daunting task, so first know that it’s never-ending. Don’t worry that you don’t yet know enough, just get started.”  I got lucky a few years ago and ransacked a music store that was getting rid of its choral music and selling it off at a deep discount.  Of course for traditional works, so much sheet music can be found on cpdl.org and imslp.org and recordings can be found anywhere.  Learn as much rep as you can, because there’s no telling when it will come in handy!
